Ghost of Tsushima players will soon be able to do battle with what lies on Iki Island when Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is released for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on August 20th. The new expansion provides an additional chapter to Jin’s story, and as such, PlayStation and Sucker Punch have released a new story trailer.

Focusing on a new villain referred to as “The Eagle”, it appears that the Iki Island expansion will bring something completely new to the overall Ghost of Tsushima experience. After Jin confronts a scouting party from “The Eagle” — the leader of a new Mongol tribe — he sets off to explore Iki but it appears that his journey doesn’t go to plan.

Sucker Punch’s “semi-fictional” take on the real life Iki Island is one brimming with lawlessness, courtesy of raiders and criminals. It’s also fiercely independent, so the sight of a samurai like Jin is unlikely to be welcome at first.

The developer further promised to focus on “intimate, emotional, personal stories,” one of the things that many players, myself included, adored in the base Ghost of Tsushima game upon its release last year.

Ghost of Tsushima’s Iki Island expansion will be released on August 20th and is only available with the Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. However, players can upgrade their current game to either the PS4 or PS5 version of the game.

You can pre-order now for $69.99 USD / €79.99 / £69.99 on PS5 and $59.99 USD / €69.99 / £59.99 on PS4. Alternatively, if you already own Ghost of Tsushima on PS4, you can pre-order an upgrade to Director’s Cut on PS4 for $19.99 USD / €19.99 / £15.99. A further upgrade is required to add in the new PS5 features — yes, it’s complicated.
