Kazuya Mishima was almost the subject of much Nintendo fan ire on Tuesday as he was announced as the latest character added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in a very Legend of Zelda-style teaser.
Throwing Ganon from a cliff into a river of lava below, it was easy to think that this was the Breath of the Wild 2 announcement everyone was waiting for — and wouldn’t be the only Zelda fake out of the afternoon. It was a very cheeky tease from Nintendo to start their E3 2021 Direct. However, the son of Heihachi soon started to do the same to other characters on the Smash Bros. roster — even Kirby!
The trailer went on to showcase the many moves that the fighter will boast, with a range of kicks, punches and other powerful moves at his disposal. We even saw him turn into Devil Kazuya and scrap with Street Fighter’s Ryu in the closest thing we’ll ever get to Tekken x Street Fighter, well, aside from playing that game itself.
Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai was on hand to help introduce the character, before confirming that we’ll see more from Kazuya in a separate presentation on June 28th.
