Failbetter Games, the folks behind the insanely depressing Sunless Skies, announced a new romantic visual novel called Mark of the Rose today.

In the game, you’ll be tasked with navigating the perils of relationships in the same sunless London where the developers other titles are set, according to a press release. Specifically, it will be a prequel to those games, and is going to be heavily based on the browser game Fallen London, which has been worked on by numerous award-winning writers.

“For fans, Mask of the Rose offers a glimpse of events that we've never shown before, immediately after London fell,” said Creative Director Emily Short. “Players will get to spend more up-close and personal time with a few well-known characters and play through a story that's more centered on individual relationships.”

The developers also noted that the game won’t require prior knowledge of the game’s universe, but that veterans of the studio’s work will uncover plenty of secrets.

Failbetter Games are set to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the game in February of 2021, and the game is expected to release at some point in 2022. We’re quite excited for this eventual release, so when there’s more news available about it, you can be sure to hear it here on Jump Dash Roll.

Somebody once told me the world was going to roll me, and they were right. I love games that let me take good-looking screenshots and ones that make me depressed, so long as the game doesn't overstay its welcome.
