At a Square Enix livestream on Thursday, the publisher announced Life is Strange: True Colors, the next installment in the incredibly popular coming of age/supernatural adventure franchise.
In the title, you’ll take control of Alex Chen, a stranger in the town of Haven Springs who has the unique power to empathise with the emotions of others (kind of like my ex-girlfriend). After her brother is killed in an “accident”, Chen needs to learn how to embrace her power while uncovering the secrets of the small town.
Although the story seems like it’s pretty run-of-the-mill stuff for the franchise, True Colors will be the first installment in the series to not release episodically. As soon as the game releases on September 10, you’ll be able to play through the entire thing, which will hopefully work to the game’s benefit.
What certainly will benefit the game, however, is that it’s being developed by Deck Nine games, the guys behind the well-received Life is Strange: Before the Storm, a standalone game that released back in 2017.
“It has been such an honor to return to the vibrant, emotive, and impactful world of Life is Strange,” said Jeff Litchford, the vice president of Deck Nine games. “We are delighted to share this new story with you: a story of empathy, human connection, and the struggle to find a place to call home. All of the advancements in storytelling, development technology, and premium voice acting that we have made since Life is Strange: Before the Storm will allow players to be more immersed in the compelling world of Life is Strange: True Colors than ever before.”
At the livestream, Square Enix also announced Life is Strange Remastered Collection, which, wait for it, contains remastered versions of the first and second Life is Strange games. The collection promises to have improved visuals and animations, and will be available both as a standalone title and as part of the Life is Strange: True Colors ultimate edition later this year.
As decidedly big fans of the franchise, we’re looking forward to playing the game when it launches on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Stadia on September 10th. You can preorder the game now on those platforms’ respective stores, and when there’s more news available about the game, you can be sure to read about it here on Jump Dash Roll.
