Saints Row, the popular gangster-em-up that somehow turned into a game where the President of the United States has superpowers in Hell, is being rebooted by longtime publisher Deep Silver and will be released on February 25, 2022.
For the unfamiliar, Saints Row is the open-world third person shooter franchise that started off with a grounded story ain 2006’s Saints Row, then was followed by a slightly sillier Grand Theft Auto in 2008’s Saints Row 2, after which came 2011’s Saints Row: The Third, where a street gang fights zombies and cartels with anime guns, before the franchise doubled down on the silliness with Saints Row IV in which you become the President of the United States before fighting in literal Hell with superpowers in 2013, then concluded with 2015’s Saints Row: Gat Outta Hell, which followed basically the same plot as the previous installment (Phew - and breathe! - Ed.).
However, none of that really matters now, because the franchise is being rebooted in a more grounded game akin to the first installment. According to a press release, this new installment will take you to the city of Santo Ileso, a city in the American Southwest. You’ll don the shoes of the founder of The Saints gang, and alongside a cast of new characters, will work to build the gang from the ground up.
It promises to have the biggest world in a Saints Row game yet, an unprecedented amount of customisation, and perhaps most importantly, the entire game can be played in co-op. There will also be a ton of vehicles to drive, boat and fly around, a huge variety of both grounded and silly weapons, and a ton of side activities to enjoy.
