Resident Evil Village — a.k.a. Resident Evil 8 — is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021. The next-generation debut for the classic survival horror franchise was revealed during our first look at the PlayStation 5 on Thursday.
“Resident Evil Village is using its expertise with Capcom’s in-house RE Engine to bring a truly next-generation survival horror experience to PS5,” says Capcom’s Kellen Haney and will “set a new standard for survival horror.”
Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Haney sets the bar high for the eighth core iteration of the Resident Evil series. Village takes place “a few years” after the events of Resident Evil 7 and sees protagonist Ethan Winters and his wife Mia readjusting to normal life and putting the horrors of Baker’s plantation behind them. That is until Chris Redfield — series hero — makes an appearance to shake up Ethan’s life once again.
Village will bring back the first person perspective from RE7, but replaces the claustrophobic corridors and tight spaces with a much more open environment. “The fear of dark corners has been replaced with the anxiety of the unknown as Ethan searches for answers within decrepit buildings among snow-covered trees,” Haney elaborates.
Resident Evil Village will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
