No Man’s Sky will soon be fully playable in VR. Revealed during Sony’s debut State of Play address, No Man’s Sky’s recently announced Beyond update will make the game fully playable using PlayStation VR and — as confirmed on Twitter by Hello Games’ Sean Murray — Steam VR.
No Man’s Sky Virtual Reality is the second of three big updates included with the game’s forthcoming Beyond expansion, which is scheduled for release sometime this summer, and Murray was quick to stress that this is not a separate mode. “No Man's Sky Virtual Reality is not a separate mode. Anything that is possible in NEXT or any other update is ready and waiting in VR,” Murray also confirmed via Twitter. “This team is in love with everything sci-fi. VR feels like science fiction become real. It's such a perfect fit for this futuristic game of ours.”
The initial announcement of Beyond also featured No Man’s Sky Online: an update which will allow the NMS community to play and explore the world together. Beyond will be released free of charge to all players and will be the second large content drop for No Man’s Sky, following the release of NEXT in August 2018.
No Man’s Sky was originally released on PS4 and PC in August 2016. No Man’s Sky NEXT saw the game released on Xbox One in July 2018, and you can read our review here.
