Metal: Hellsinger Combines Doom and Rock Band in New Gameplay Clip
Metal: Hellsinger is the rhythm based retro shooter we never knew we wanted. Revealed last week (trailer below) among a glut of new announcements, an extended gameplay clip was also showcased during The Guerilla Collective Day Two Presentation.
Pairing the rhythm action of games like Thumper and Rock Band with the pace and metal explosion of the recent DOOM games, Metal Hellsinger is a new game from award-winning FPS creator David Goldfarb and developer The Outsiders, and is one of the most conceptually unique titles revealed in years. It also looks like a ton of fun and aims to be “the most metal game ever made” — nobody tell Brutal Legend.
Sure, games have been pretty metal before but rarely has music ever been so intrinsically linked to FPS gameplay. The new clip (above) shows just how the game will work: Shooting and killing demonic enemies to the beat will power up your attacks. The longer you can keep your streak going, the more metal the game will become. How? Well, your performance in the game will affect the layers of music playing in the background. Do well and you’ll be slaying enemies to full-blown metal anthems.
Soaring vocals from Matt Heafy (Trivium) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy) won’t be the only recognisable voice talents either. Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Uncharted 4) is clear as day as narrator / weapon Paz and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect) lends herself to an evil boss seen towards the end of the clip.
Metal: Hellsinger releases in 2021 on PC and will also be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One Xbox Series X.
