Larian Made a Video to Promote Divinity: Original Sin II on Switch and It Is Hilariously Bad

Many studios put out a press release to let people know about their new game. Most will offer up some sort of trailer or gameplay video. But what do you do about promoting a port of an existing game onto a new console? Marketing is an expensive business — a lot of money will have been spent on getting that first release out of the door and making people aware of it. Doing the same thing again for a different format is a tough call to make.

Unless you're Larian Studios.

These people know that money is certainly an object which is why the new release of Divinity: Original Sin II Definitive Edition on Switch has been accompanied by a ten-minute movie that feels like the college film that the people involved always wanted to make, but never had the opportunity. Or the training. The acting is awful. The special effects are awful. The dialogue is awful. The plot is awful. And yet... and yet... you cannot pull yourself away.

It achieves the impossible: promoting the new game, explaining the benefits of owning it for both Switch owners and PC gamers (cross play across both platforms means that if you own it on PC, you now have a reason to return to it with your Switch friends), and indulging in some truly terrible film-making that will no doubt go viral. Hell, we're talking about it, so it's done its job already.

Kudos to the Larian team for coming up with this. It might be an abomination of cinema but we think that's kind of the point. And hey, it's still better than The Room.
