Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
, the latest game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season. A brutal cinematic trailer released on Thursday by Ubisoft, also confirms that the game will see a release on PC*, Xbox One, PS4 and Google Stadia at the same time.

You can watch the trailer here:

Set in England during the Dark Ages, Valhalla follows Eivor, a Viking clan leader. As with Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, players will have the choice between a male and female protagonist and will have the ability to customise their raider to their liking with many hair, tattoo, clothing, war paint and gear options available. Valhalla will continue to follow the Assassin’s Creed open world formula, building upon it (literally) with settlements, as well as with raids (presumably of the Viking kind) and influence mechanics.

Players will “sail across the icy north sea to discover and conquer the broken Kingdoms of England” and have the ability to take part in activities such as hunting and drinking games as well as flyting — a Viking equivalent of rap battling. Everything you choose to do in AC: Valhalla will play into the game as a whole. “Political alliances, combat decisions, and dialogue choices can influence the world of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, so players must choose wisely to protect their clan’s home and future,” Ubisoft confirmed in a press release.

Ubisoft Montreal is leading development. The studio previously helmed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed: Origins. Here's their story breakdown:

Driven from Norway by endless wars and dwindling resources in ninth century AD, players will lead Eivor’s clan of Norsemen across the icy North Sea to the rich lands of England’s broken kingdoms. Players must carve out a new future for their clan, reliving the ruthless fighting style of Viking warriors with a revamped combat system that includes the ability to dual-wield weapons against a greater variety of enemies than ever before. To secure resources, players can lead raids to select locations using their longship to earn much-needed riches and supplies. As the Vikings begin to settle in their new home, they encounter resistance from the Saxons, including King Aelfred of Wessex, who denounces them as heathens and looks to be the sole ruler of a civilized England. Against all odds, Eivor must do what is necessary to keep Valhalla within reach.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla was confirmed on Wednesday by Ubisoft who held a live stream with artist BossLogic who created a piece of key art for the game to reveal its English setting.

*Note: the PC release will arrive via Epic Games Store, the Ubisoft Store and the publisher’s Uplay subscription service.
