PlayStation VR 2 has its first official game — Horizon Call of the Mountain. Revealed during a Sony presentation at CES 2022 in Las Vegas on Tuesday, the surprise announcement came alongside further details about the PlayStation VR 2 hardware.
Developed by Horizon Zero Dawn creators Guerrilla Games in partnership with recently acquired PlayStation studio Firesprite, Horizon Call of the Mountain is the first official game revealed for the forthcoming hardware. The game will take advantage of the next-generation VR headset’s OLED 4K HDR display and high refresh rate as well as the haptic feedback built into the headset and the new Sense controllers.
Horizon Call of the Mountain will “will open the doors for players to go deeper into the world of Horizon,” says Jan-Bart Van Beek. “[Horizon Call of the Mountain] has been designed to push gameplay, technology and hardware innovation and it truly shows what’s possible with the hardware’s best-in-class visual experience and controllers.”
In a statement following the event Guerrilla Games’ studio head noted that players will not be playing as series’ protagonist Aloy in Call of the Mountain: “We don’t want to reveal too much just yet, but this story will be told through the eyes of an entirely new character. You will also meet Aloy, other familiar faces, and new characters along the way, and we’ll be introducing you to the protagonist of Horizon Call of the Mountain soon.”
Guerrilla Games will release the highly anticipated Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on February 18th. You can watch 14 minutes of gameplay from Horizon Forbidden West here.
