Ninja Theory's Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is coming soon and today, after the first raft of reviews have been released, folks have realised there is mandated permadeath included by the devs themselves.
In a battle early on you fight, and if you lose repeatedly, it's game over. Totally. You see, your save file is deleted.
This might be the way Ninja Theory as the creatives want their game to be experienced, and that's fine. Cinematic auteurs will create a colour palette, or film on 70mm because that's what creates their vision.
But as a gamer, does this turn you off? I know it would for me. I'm now totally uninterested in this. I have limited game time these days anyway. I don't want to spend that time playing only to be forced to start again. That's my choice - not accepting the devs' choice. But really - this position won't be limited to just me. So how many potential sales are Ninja Theory happy to lose out on?
