Halo Infinite got its official multiplayer reveal during the Xbox + Bethesda E3 2021 presentation, and now 343 Industries has shared a deeper dive into what multiplayer will be like in the latest entry in the Halo franchise.

The 12 minute video covers everything from training modes against AI bots, to battle pass content and cosmetics, right through to the nitty gritty of what makes Halo Infinite’s multiplayer the most complete Halo multiplayer experience to date.

It’s clear that the legacy of Halo multiplayer is important to the team at 343, but at the same time they’re looking to bring the classic gameplay that fans love into the modern era. So whilst the game will feel like Halo there’s also a series of additions that make the overall experience more modern including a battle pass and, of course, making the multiplayer suite free-to-play on both Xbox and PC with crossplay.

Fear not, the battle pass will contain no random loot boxes. However, it is how customisation elements will unlock though — but these are all merely cosmetic. Players will have the option to purchase an additional battle pass to work on upon completion of a season’s core pass. Progression through the battle pass will also be ubiquitous across both Xbox and PC.

Player customisation will include everything from the colour of your armour, emblems, effects and even individual armour pieces. All of these can be applied to a variety of body types and your character’s voice can be altered too. Speaking of which, even the announcer can be customised with different voices and personalities. On top of player customisation, there will also be plenty of options when it comes to tweaking your weapons and vehicles too. However, the coolest and most wonderfully inclusive feature is the ability to provide your character with prosthetic limbs — a really nice touch.

Alongside the larger changes to the overall multiplayer suite, there have also been a series of tweaks to the gameplay. Players will now have the ability to grapple hook a weapon to you, you can choose when to deploy items like shields and camouflage instead of them automatically being used, weapon drops à la Halo 2 are present, and there are a number of updates on the vehicle front.

The introduction of The Razorback may be the biggest overall addition from a gameplay standpoint. Described as a “cousin” of Halo’s famous Warthog, it has the ability to store items on board like detached turrets, power weapons, fusion cores and objective items. Vehicles can also sustain much more realistic damage with the ability for wheels to be blown off with handling being affected — understandably. Plus, if a vehicle catches fire there’s an indicator to show how much time you have before it blows up. And if you need another vehicle, they can be delivered by Pelican during Big Team Battles.

So, there’s a lot going on when it comes to the Halo Infinite multiplayer suite. Both the multiplayer and the campaign for the highly anticipated game are due to launch on Xbox Series, PC and Xbox One this holiday season.
