Heads up FIFA fans, this year’s game is set for a major gameplay overhaul. As detailed in a new gameplay video, EA Sports has shed a little more light on some of the new, and hopefully improved, systems in FIFA 20. It’s a video that will be scrutinised, pulled apart, and unfairly judged for months until the game’s September release — but that’s enough about how I spend my evenings.
The short clip gives us a glimpse at the new targeted set-piece system, something that should make bending it like Beckham or smashing a penalty into the top corner like Harry Kane more achievable than ever before.
Dynamic one on ones have also been introduced, allowing skilled attackers to breeze past defenders whilst rock solid defenders can shut things down in an instant. The increased control is all about adding additional realism to the game — something both FIFA and rival Pro Evolution Soccer attempt with each new iteration. Physics driven ball movement should help in that regard too, with the ball moving as you’d expect with each shot, touch and bobble on the pitch. Finally, players can get even more clinical with new finishing mechanics that make slotting one past the goalkeeper even sweeter.
If all of that made sense and has you excited — congratulations. I’m right there with you too. FIFA 20 releases on September 27th for PS4, Xbox One, PC (Origin) and Nintendo Switch.
