This week, the world’s largest esports organiser ESL announced that the ESL One New York competition will be returning to Brooklyn's Barclays Center later in the year. Due to be held from September 29 to 30, the competition will bring together eight of the world's best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) teams competing to get their hands on $250,000 prize money and another point towards the Intel Grand Slam, with $1 million up for grabs.
The competition will be made up of five teams that have been invited to compete but the other three teams will have to work their way into the finale through a series of qualifier matches. Once all the teams are verified, they will go on to compete in a double elimination group stage before the remaining four teams fight through single elimination best-of-three matches on the main stage. The grand final will then move to best-of-five to have a shot at taking home the ESL One championship trophy.
“We look forward to bringing ESL One New York and premier competition back to Barclays Center for another showcase of exciting esports. One weekend, one crowd, and one spectacular final. At ESL One New York, everything comes together. The passion behind the fans will fuel the amazing esports experience ESL looks to create, and we aim to make this event unforgettable.”
Yvette Martinez-Rea, CEO, ESL North America
This event in New York will mark the thirteenth event in the Intel Grand Slam. Teams have been battling it out to see which one will win a $1 million bonus prize. To be in with a chance of winning, a team has to be the first to win four out of the last ten DreamHack or ESL events. Current teams all in contention for the big prize are Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, FazeClan, G2 and SK Gaming, who are currently leading the series with two points.
Tickets for the event go on sale on Friday, April 20 at 8am PDT / 11am EDT / 5pm CEST via this link. If you want more information about this event or the ESL One championships, then head to the official website.
