E3 2021: Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Coming From Gearbox Starring Andy Samberg, Ashly Burch, Will Arnett & Wanda Sykes
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is not a Borderlands game — something Tiny Tina voice actor Ashly Burch was quick to confirm to Geoff Keighley following the announcement of the new game during the Summer Game Fest Kickoff live stream.
A fantasy-based shooter with an all-star cast — including Andy Samberg, Wanda Skyes, and Will Arnett — Wonderlands is a full-length Borderlands spin off of sorts. Developed by Gearbox and published by 2K, the game will see players combining gunplay with spell casting in a way that will supposedly feel familiar to Borderlands players but with a D&D-style twist.
Tiny Tina is in charge in Wonderlands. This is her game, we’re just playing it. Much like the Assault on Dragon Keep DLC for Borderlands 2, Tina will play dungeon master and will bend the game and your fate to her whims.
Stepping away from the strict character and class model of Borderlands, Wonderlands will allow players to customise their characters and pick their classes. It also appears to retain the same ridiculousness as Borderlands as well as 4-player co-op.
Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford says that Wonderlands has been in development, on and off, for almost a decade.
“Bringing actual Borderlands guns to fight dragons, skeletons, goblins, and more in an original fantasy world imagined by the galaxy’s deadliest thirteen-year-old, Tiny Tina, as a new, full-featured AAA video game is a dream come true,” said Pitchford.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is scheduled for release in early 2022.
