Solar Ash got a very brief cameo during the Summer Games Fest Kickoff show on Thursday. Introduced by PlayStation’s Head of Independent Developer Initiative Shuhei Yoshida, we get to see another minute of gameplay from the video below:
A neon-drenched action adventure platformer, Solar Ash will see players take control of Rei, a Voidrunner who enters the Ultravoid to save her home. Equipped with incredible speed and agility, Rei must traverse sunken cities, dangerous lava and test herself against colossal creatures to complete her quest.
“We want to empower the player, showcasing just how skilled Rei is at what she does,” said Heart Machine Head Alx Preston in a post on the PlayStation Blog following Solar Ash’s gameplay reveal in February.
It certainly looks that way too. Announced in 2019, the new game from developer Heart Machine is a huge departure from the meticulous and minimalist Hyper Light Drifter. You wouldn’t think they’re even in the same universe would you?
Solar Ash is still slated to release in 2021. Could this little gameplay tease mean we’ll be seeing more soon? Perhaps this is something else we’ll see at the expected PlayStation presentation that is “weeks away”?
