REPLACED — the title treatment used all caps — is a new game from Sad Cat Studios and Coatsink that is described as “a sci-fi retro-futuristic action platformer”. It was announced on Sunday as part of the Xbox + Bethesda E3 2021 presentation and it looks great.
The game’s pixel-heavy art style is incredibly striking and lends itself well to the (don’t say cyberpunk) setting. The game has you taking on the role of R.E.A.C.H., an AI trapped inside a human body against its own will. Through a combination of platforming and free-flowing combat you’ll discover the dark secrets of Phoenix City in an alternative 1980s.
A console launch exclusive on Xbox, REPLACED will also be available on PC and will be available via Game Pass in 2022.
