Psychonauts 2 will be released on August 25th. The news comes from the Xbox + Bethesda presentation at E3 2021.
Developed by Double Fine, the mind-bending platformer has faced multiple delays since it was first announced in 2015. Now with the developer under the Xbox banner we have the first Psychonauts 2 gameplay trailer to go alongside the announcement.
The platform-adventure game combines “quirky missions and mysterious conspiracies,” as it sends protagonist Raz on a journey to defeat a mysterious foe. The uniqueness of the Psychonauts world and those who inhabit it has not been lost in the sequel, but I’m curious as to how it will stack up to the original game — a bona fide cult classic.
It’s also worth noting that, despite being owned by Microsoft, Psychonauts 2 will also launch on PlayStation, Mac OS and Linux alongside the Xbox and PC releases on August 25th.
