Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was the closing announcement of Saturday’s Ubisoft Forward presentation on Saturday. Developed by Massive Entertainment — the team behind The Division 2 and a new ‘Star Wars’ project — the game is set to release in 2022.
Revealed with a beautiful, action-packed, cinematic trailer (below), giving us a taste of the kind of things we can hope for in a game based on James Cameron’s gigantic sci-fi franchise (look, the sequels will be released - they're actually in production at last!).
Here’s the story premise from the game’s press release:
“In this new, standalone story, play as a Na’vi and embark on a journey across the Western Frontier, a never-before-seen part of Pandora. Explore a living and reactive world inhabited by unique creatures and new characters, and push back the formidable RDA forces that threaten it.”
Built using the Snowdrop engine, ‘The Avatar Project’ (as it was known) was first announced in 2017 and has not been heard about since. As such, it was a nice surprise to see it pop up here — especially with everything Massive Entertainment is working on at the moment.
We’ve only got 2022 to go on as far as a date goes, but the game will launch on Xbox Series, PlayStation 5 and PC.
