Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest Marvel property to get the AAA video game treatment. Announced during the Square Enix Presents stream on Sunday, the game will be released on October 21st 2021.

Developed by Eidos Montreal, Guardians of the Galaxy is a single-player, third-person, action adventure game with the focus on Guardians' leader ‘Star Lord’ Peter Quill. In the gameplay demo (below) we can see that the game is fast paced and combines gunplay and melee combat as well as team-up abilities with his partners.

Whilst players won’t be controlling them directly, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora and Drax will be on hand to assist Star Lord in battle, and there’s plenty of interaction away from the fight too. The banter between the team is incredibly important to the franchise as a whole and, from what we can see, that has been implemented here. Players will even have the chance to make choices and choose the direction of the story to some degree.

This 10-minute gameplay video sees the Guardians in the midst of a scheme to rip off the monster queen Lady Hellbender. As you might expect, it doesn’t go very smoothly. It also contains some incredible music — another Guardians' staple.

Guardians of the Galaxy will launch on October 21st on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series and PC.
