Devolver Digital, the indie publisher behind games like Ape Out and Hotline Miami, have taken E3 by storm in recent years with their… different approach to press conferences. This year is no different. In 21 gloriously gory and over-the-top minutes of trailers and schlocky B-movie antics you’ll learn about some interesting new games and DLC for acclaimed titles. However, it’s the journey that’s most important.
We’ll run down the announcements below but, seriously, you need to watch this.
So… that was something, right? Anyway, in case you missed anything. Here’s the full list of games and downloadable content shown off during Devolver Digital’s Big Fancy Press Conference 2019.
Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout
Developed by Mediatonic, this colourful Lemmings-meets-battle royale style title looks bonkers and will release sometime in 2020.
Devolver Bootleg
The most ridiculous announcement at this conference and potentially at any E3 to date, Devolver Digital are selling an 8-in-1 game pack of bootleg versions of your favourite games. The rip-offs include: Hotline Milwaulkee, Ape Out Jr., Enter the Gun Dungeon and Luftrousers.
The Devolver Bootleg is available now via Steam for $4.94.
Carrion
Described as a “reverse horror game”, in Carrion you will take control of the monster that rips through an unsuspecting space station. The new game from Phobia Game Studio is over-the-top, gory fun with your goal to “stalk and consume those who imprisoned you”.
Carrion will be out on PC and consoles in 2020.
Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead
Not satisfied with publishing bonkers digital-only titles, Devolver has gone old school and will release Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead as a two-player co-op arcade cabinet. Yep — an actual arcade cabinet that releases in 2020.
My Friend Pedro
During a glitched-out sequence we saw a bit more gameplay for the balletic action-shooter My Friend Pedro and learned that the game is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC on June 20th. We'll have our review out shortly!
The Messenger: Picnic Panic
The DLC for the highly acclaimed ninja-themed action-platformer was first revealed during last year’s Kinda Funny Games Showcase. Here we saw a brand new trailer and learned that it releases on July 11th and will allow players to take “the perfect ninja vacation”.
Devolver Digital were outrageous as always, and the fact that a team is choosing to so wonderfully send up the videogame industry and E3 as a whole in such a clever and gratuitous way is just fantastic.
We look forward to seeing Devolver delve deeper into madness at E3 2020.
