Masochists rejoice! The original (and dare we say, best) means of modern self-torment is getting a shiny new coat of paint. Yes, Dark Souls is being given the Remastered treatment by FromSoftware, before getting chucked onto PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.

The Switch version, announced in a surprise Nintendo Direct this morning, is interesting since it marks the first time a Souls game will be playable in a portable fashion, and in TV mode it'll hit both 1080p and 30FPS. The other systems will go further, supporting upscaled 4K and 60FPS. Better still, the remastered version will include the first game's Artorias of the Abyss DLC.

Dark Souls is the action-RPG which defined a generation, spawning both sequels and clones and its very own (possibly overused) adjective -- Souls-like -- to describe any title which punishes players relentlessly in a similar framework to the original. It makes for yet another departure for Nintendo, who are shedding their family-friendly mantle in an effort to establish themselves as serious contenders in the gaming arena.

Get ready, sun-praisers. Dark Souls: Remastered will be launched on May 25th, 2018.

I've been gaming since the days of the Amstrad. Huge RPG fan. Planescape: Torment tops my list, but if a game tells a good story, I'm interested. Absolutely not a fanboy of any specific console or PC - the proof is in the gaming pudding. Also, I like cake.
