Everything you need to know
Despite our best efforts, there’s a new Call of Duty game releasing this year, and the folks behind the now-named Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022, not 2009) shared a ton of details about the upcoming shooter with a handful of blog posts on the series’ website on Wednesday.
Things like the title’s release date, details about its campaign and how much it’ll cost have all been revealed, and for anyone who doesn’t want to read those posts, here’s everything that you need to know about Infinity Ward’s latest title.
- The game will launch on Friday, October 28 for both generations of Xbox and PlayStation consoles and PC
- You can preorder the standard edition for €70/$70, or get the “Vault Edition” that includes some extra skins and a season pass for €100/$100, today on your platform of choice. Both editions include early access to the title’s beta
- Console players can buy the “cross-gen bundle” for €70/$70, which will give them access to both past and current generation versions of the game when it launches
- PC players buy the game on Steam, which is the first time a mainline entry to the series has been available on Valve’s store since 2015’s Black Ops III. It’s also available on Battle.net if you don’t like Steam for some reason
- The title will have a campaign that includes many of Modern Warfare 2019’s characters, the series’ standard multiplayer mode and co-op by way of the “Spec Ops”
- Warzone 2.0, the franchise’s free-to-play Battle Royale mode, will launch later this year, and “mobile experience” (presumably akin to Call of Duty Mobile) is also in development
- The latest installment will include a host of technical improvements to the franchise, including an anti-cheat that will hopefully be better than whatever Black Ops: Cold War used
- The game will have the now-standard suite of post-launch content including free new maps, modes and a battle pass
- The “gameplay reveal” trailer on YouTube doesn’t actually have any gameplay in it
- More details will be revealed in the days leading up to the game’s launch
Needless to say, then, we here at Jump Dash Roll are quite looking forward to the title, if for no other reason than it means we’ll have something to review come late October. Be sure to check back then for our review, and stay tuned for when more details about the title are released!
