Assassin's Creed Valhalla Releases in November, Brutal Gameplay Trailer Unveiled
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla looks brutal and beautiful in equal measure and it’s coming out this November.
Gameplay debuted at Ubisoft’s first Ubisoft Forward event on Sunday, showing game that appears to break further away from the traditional Assassin’s Creed formula whilst retaining just a hint of the series’ roots.
Playing as Eivor — either as a male or female character — players travel from Norway to settle in England, just as the Vikings did. Therefore, you must do as the Vikings did and sail the country, raid towns for resources, fight in huge battles and work to become a Viking legend.
As a Viking, you won’t be alone either. Many challenges will see the player accompanied by an AI crew of soldiers, ready to take on any task and slay enemies at your command. It’s an ambitious step for the series, building heavily upon its systems to make this game true to the Viking experience.
Raids will see the player pillaging villages to build up a settlement of your own. Along your journey you’ll encounter key allies as well as enemies. Enemies, who may require a bit more tact to beat than in previous games. Luckily, combat has seen a huge overhaul. Players are encouraged to dual-wield weapons and experiment with loadouts to take down foes. The stealthy elements of Assassin's Creed remain, but it appears that brute force will be a much more intrinsic part of the game.
All of this will culminate in huge assaults, with hordes of allies fighting alongside the player to take down a huge fort. Battles of this scale are unlike anything players will have faced in Assassin’s Creed games before, and could prove to be the most exciting new element.
It’s also worth mentioning that the game looks beautiful too, capturing the countryside of England and the ancient architecture — some of which is still there today — really well.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launches on November 17th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Xbox Series X and PS5 versions are expected for the launch of the consoles. Free upgrades to next-generation versions will be available.
