Apex Legends Coming to Switch "This Fall"

Apex Legends is coming to Nintendo Switch. Announced on Thursday (Friday in the UK) during the EA Play Live stream, the hugely popular free-to-play first-person shooter will launch “this fall”.

How Apex Legends will play on Switch is another question entirely, but it’s not like we’ll have to wait too long to find out. Of course, there is a noticeable visual downgrade. Still, it seems like the game will stack up well against its counterparts on other consoles. 

The announcement of the long-awaited Switch port of the game came alongside news that Apex Legends will add cross-play functionality. This will allow players on PC, PS4, Xbox One and now Nintendo Switch to play together. Also arriving “this fall,” it’s easy to assume that it will launch day-in-date with the game on Switch. However, that has yet to be confirmed.

Initially released out of nowhere in February 2019, the game was received positively by press and fans alike and proved to be a worthy competitor to Fortnite: Battle Royale. Whilst not nearly as popular as Epic’s F2P giant long-term, Apex’s player base continues to grow and is expected to do big numbers on Nintendo’s handheld / console hybrid.

Now in its fifth season, the squad-based battle royale game boasts an incredibly diverse cast of characters, multiple maps, and an incredible array of new skins for players to buy and earn. Combine that with fast-paced, squad-based, battle royale gameplay, plus the top-tier FPS development talent of Respawn Entertainment, and it’s easy to see why over 70 million players (per VentureBeat) and counting are continuing to support the game.
